Dyson HP04 Review: An All-round Air Purifier

6 min read

When it comes to producing great quality air purifiers, Dyson is one of the most celebrated names. Over the last few years, Dyson has manufactured numerous air purifiers that give great value for their price, and the Dyson HP04 is no different. In my Dyson HP04 review, you will get to know its features, key selling points, and pros and cons.

Product Overview

Dyson’s air purifiers are divided into a few classes, and the HP04 falls into the Hot+Cool series. This already gives you an X-factor to purchase this product, as this air purifier does the job of three devices.

Product Design

Let’s get started with the product design first. Like the other Hot+Cool air purifiers from Dyson, the HP04 also takes much less space compared to other regular air purifiers. It’s oval amplifier and the bladeless fan speak of Dyson’s state of the design mechanism. Very often smaller air purifiers are unable to move a good amount of air in a spacious room, but it is not the case with the Dyson HP04.

Sufficient air maneuvering is achieved through its height. As the Dyson HP04 is 30 inches tall, it doesn’t look and work like a desktop air purifier. The extra height makes room for an amp with a larger diameter, 8 inches to be precise. The LCD display of this air purifier is placed above the air intake grill, making it much easier for you to read even from a distance. You’ll get to know updates about your room’s air quality, temperature, and humidity level.

Compared to other common Dyson air purifiers, the HP04 is a bit on the heavier side. Then again, it weighs only 12.35 pounds, making it very convenient to move around in different rooms.

Filters

My Dyson HP04 review wouldn’t be complete if I don’t talk about the filters. To begin with, it comes with the latest HEPA filter. It also features an updated 2-stage air cleaning system.

As you know it already, the glass HEPA filter is responsible for capturing particles as small as 0.3 microns. With this purifier, you will be able to keep your indoor air free of bacteria, pollen, and pet dander. Particles that are bigger than 0.3 microns, such as dust, will be captured by this filter by default.

Apart from the true HEPA filter, the HP04 also comes with an activated carbon filter which will keep household odors and harmful gases away from your house. This filter has tris-impregnated carbon, making it capable of absorbing any odors, chemicals, and gases in your home.

The HEPA filter on the other hand, is certified by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, so you won’t have to worry about common medical concerns associated with low quality air purifiers. If you are looking for an environment friendly product, then the Dyson HP04 is your pick because it is 100% ozone free.

Range

Well, I would not claim that the Dyson HP04 comes with the biggest room coverage out there, but 400 square feet doesn’t seem too small, is it? You will easily be able to keep the HP04 in a large living room and enjoy purified air all day long. If you live in a studio apartment, this will in fact cover the entirety of your space. People who live in bigger houses are rich anyway, so they wouldn’t mind buying more than one unit, lol.

Sound

One of the major concerns while purchasing an air purifier is the amount of sound it makes. If your air purifier makes too much noise, it will not be able to give you a good night’s sleep, rather become a nuisance. Good news for you, as the Dyson HP04 comes with a super silent operation. Yes, there are quieter air purifiers in the market, but for this point, you won’t find too many quieter options. It has a noise level between 40 to 57 decibels. Not bad, right?

Power Consumption

I know quite a few people who almost had a heart attack upon receiving their electricity bills right after the month they bought an air purifier. Let’s face it, air purifiers can be very power hungry. On top of that, you do need to use them for an extended period of time for efficiency.

Anyways, I had a mixed feeling with the HP04 considering power consumption. If you use it in cooling mode, it will just consume 36 to 44 watts, which is really low. On the other hand, the heating mode can even consume up to 1575 watts. This means, if you use the Dyson HP04 only for the purpose of purifying, you won’t end up paying a lot of money for electricity bills.

Additional Features

The additional features simply put the Dyson HP04 a class above its competitors. First of all, it is fairly easy to use because of its magnetic remote control. Want more control? Then simply download the Dyson Link app. It is a smart air purifier, and the app makes the user experience a lot better. You can even use Alexa to give it voice commands.

Lastly, the Dyson HP04 includes three different sensors. One of these monitor your room’s temperature and humidity, while the other two identify particulate concentration and track volatile organic compounds. You will receive a bit more detail about your room’s air due to these three different sensors.

Pros and Cons

Now it’s time to give you some pros and cons.

Pros

  • Does the job of three devices (cooler+heater+air purifier)
  • Does not take that much space
  • Smart control system
  • HEPA and Carbon filter
  • Three sensors
  • Value for money

Cons

  • Not the quietest
  • Consumes a lot of power in heating mode

Conclusion

There goes my Dyson HP04 review. I can easily conclude that it is one of the best products in the market within this price range. Do you have another air purifier in this price point in mind? Feel free to let me know in the comment section.
